Embankment Construction, Aurukun to Batavia

OVERVIEW

Vision Constructions has undertaken several contracts for Roadtek on the Peninsula Development Road in North Queensland. The Aurukun to Batavia project consisted of a 16km road embankment construction stretching from the Aurukun turn off to the Batavia turn off approximately 70km South of Weipa. Material was sourced from borrow pits established along the alignment of the embankment

 

The average embankment height was 600 mm from the existing road height. Approximately 4000m3 of material was shifted per day.  This was a substantial earthworks project made difficult by differing materials types and characteristics.

 

The project was completed successfully on time and within budget guidelines set out by the client

 

SCOPE

Some of the key constructional tasks within the project were;

• Traffic control,

• Clear and grub,

• Embankment Construction,

• Bulk earthworks,

• Re-sheeting works,

• Establishment of borrow pits, and

• Mixing and blending of several material types.
