PROJECT DETAILS
PROJECT
Gorge Creek Demolition & Construction
CLIENT
Department Transport and Main Roads
OVERVIEW
This project involved the demolition and removal of an existing flood damaged concrete causeway at Gorge Creek (approx. 350km west of Townsville) and the construction of a new concrete structure with gabion rock protection.
The works were undertaken for the Queensland Department of Main Roads within the Etheridge Shire. Gorge Creek was known for its fast flowing and very powerful stream flow. This project was undertaken late in the year under extremely tight time frames in order to complete the works prior to an imminent wet season. The project was completed in 2009 and has since withstood some of the most powerful floods and cyclones in history (i.e. cyclone Yasi).
